January and it rained - sun on the horizon

LadyGale's issues

There are a few things we need to get sorted first. One is I can't spell without the aid of Spell Check and then that is not 100% guaranteed either. The other is my grammar...spelt that wrong first time too.

Those who know me will know that emails are grammatically challenging, that my mobile is set too predictive text so you are constantly trying to work out what I have written.

Personally with texts I blame the phone as it seems to have a mind of its own. Although, saying that, I have a friend who, doesn't wear her reading glasses when she texts and the outcome is the message doesn't make sense whatsoever...Therefore, it must be either an age thing or faulty BB's! Glad we got that little understanding established.

The reason I started this blog was because of my girlfriends i.e. Witches of Eastwick. We all decided to share our top five achievements we wanted for 2014 with each other.

 So, mine are:
  1. Give up smoking - I know should have done it years ago...don't nag!
  2. Get healthy and loose weight (impacted greatly by the effort involved in No.1)
  3. Do something I am scared of, may be underwater diving as I hate having the masks on my face and putting my head underwater (Steve no comments please) or a tandem parachute jump. Pity the poor bugger that does that with me!
  4. Visit two Continents I have never been too
  5. Write a Blog
Update so far:
  1. Am Trying really hard have only had 2 lapses since 12 midnight on 31/12/2013
  2. Not happening, am eating everything insight cus of No.1 and exercise will be torture.
  3. In the planning phase
  4. Thinking of doing Australia - Perth in July/August to visit a long term friend and as for the other would like to do China or Malaysia or Hong Kong, so in progress
  5. Am working on it as you read
Anybody who can offer any advice on the above please give it, I will listen however; I will not guarantee to take it. If you want to join me on a scary mission or pay for me to visit two new continents feel free to speak out, I will accept.

Location, Location, Location

I am very lucky indeed. My current home and residence is in Abu Dhabi. I have lived here for the last 7 years and totally love it. Do I miss the UK? Except in the middle of summer sometimes, when the heat here is heading towards 50 degrees and the humidity is around 80-90%. Then a lazy afternoon picnic in the country near to an ambling stream with the kids and Grand kids wouldn't go a miss. Other than that no!

However; what on earth is wrong with the weather at the moment? What with flooding in the UK, Artic temperatures in America and Canada and rainy weather in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Forget Global Warming, we are entering into another Ice Age...aren't we?

Monday in Abu Dhabi was just awful...we had rain! Oh don't start, we all moved here for the sunshine, the Tax Free environment and to save money. Two out of three isn't bad. One out of three is a crisis!

Normally the weather is good this time of year, temperatures are in the mid to late twenties this allows us to venture out have barbeques on the beach and enjoy the fresh cooler air. But oh no, not this week. First challenge of the day was find the umbrella and then remember your rain coat is in the UK! This is only for those who had to go to work, the others just went back to bed.

Second Challenge was driving to work. You may ask why a challenge? Lets just say when we have, out of the norm weather conditions over here, expats from Eastern Continents normally do unexpected things.

On this particular day quite a few of them decided to stop driving in the rain and put their hazard lights on. Not an issue I hear you say, very sensible, yeah right...try navigating cars and trucks that have stopped in the centre lane of the five lane highway. And they wonder why road accidents are higher here...the words no comment spring to mind.

Below is a picture of Abu Dhabi Corniche on a normal day in January...beautiful

Monday this week

Weekend Fun

Joy of joys, we have a 3 day weekend as we are having Sunday off in lieu of Prophet Mohammed's Birthday.

Great news for me as it allows for loads of couch and bed rest prior to my Birthday celebrations next week 15th Jan. How old will I be...not telling you but think of the number 33 plus VAT.

I've organized two Birthday celebration events for this year. One is an evening buffet treat with 8 very dear friends and my son. The other is with four very close friends, my lucky son and we are partaking on a favourite Friday pastime called Friday Brunch!

Meaning of Friday Brunch - Grazing on exquisite foods for 4 hours (being all you can eat), consuming real champagne for 4-4.5hrs (depending on waiter) glass never empty (depending on waiter) and making lots of new friends you will never see again or remember. Then the icing on the cake, the after brunch party with more champagne if you are lucky and my credit card isn't! In a nutshell,  messy but totally enjoyable experience.

So watch this space for the events of this weekends preparations and next weeks celebrations.

LadyGale signing off in the meantime.
